For the past decade, I’ve been a poker player.
Upswing Poker pro leads Twitch audience in live prayer ahead of record-breaking score.
Could Divine Intervention be responsible for Doug Polk’s epic $455,000 WCOOP performance two weeks ago? Doug’s Twitch live-stream viewers who arrived early on that fateful September 19th morning got a rare glimpse at the vulnerable side of Team Upswing’s resident superstar.
The TwoPlusTwo NVG forum community was once again alight this week as Upswing Poker featured pro Doug Polk took to the YouTube airwaves to relay his thoughts on current events in the industry. The August 4th “Polker News” episode covered the following topics which are currently being discussed on the TwoPlusTwo boards.
For Poker Life Lessons, Look to Jennifer Harman
Jennifer Harman has earned her status as a true poker elite. She has the respect of famous players Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu, both of whom play regularly against her in the biggest live nosebleed tables. She has remained active and successful while other poker pros rise and fall in the darwinian poker ecology that we live in today. Somehow, she’s done so while fighting kidney failure, a divorce and raising twins. It may seem cliche to ask ‘‘how does she do it?’’ … but seriously, how the hell does she do it?
Shuffle Up and Meal
I don’t know what it is about poker players, but as a group we tend to be more receptive towards eating nice meals than other groups of people. It probably has to do with dealing with large sums of money fluctuating rapidly, but in any case during the WSOP it seems to be a month straight of gambling, grief, and grub. A lot of people have told me they really don’t like Vegas because they don’t like it during the WSOP. This saddens me, mostly because I think Vegas has a ton to offer and I spend as little time on the strip as necessary. If you’re going to spend time at the WSOP this year, do yourself a favor and rent a car or spend a bit on cab fare and check out these amazing local Vegas dining spots.
